Last year saw a new beginning for DJ Pete Doyle.
From spinning an eclectic mix of funk, disco and early house to a handful of mates in a bedroom loft aged 16 and starting his own Pirate radio Station in Kent GAMMA FM,
The 18-year Pete Doyle story is a fascinating one...
His genuine love for all things tuff and funky has seen him slug his record boxes not only up and down the UK but laterally, all over the world, visiting over 30 different countries during an extremely eventful roller coaster career.
Since those humble beginnings he'd gone on to be resident at a bar DJ Magazine once called 'The Best Bar in Ibiza'. (CAFE MAMBO IBIZA) Pete has performed to over 20,000 people at a huge rave in Miami Beach Florida, produced and remixed countless hit records, worked for some of the UK's most respected dance labels and even spun at lavish private parties for Calvin Klein and Dexter Wong Fashion Shows.
Ask him today and he'll say that becoming a regular feature on the Global Club Circuit is his greatest achievement to date: getting to spin the music he truly loves on a world stage - quality tuff, funky, vocal tribal tinged house with a distinctly American/European flavor. Music from labels such as Big Love, Toolroom Records, OnePhatDeeva, Solid Soul, Defected, Fluential, Sondos, Underwater, Ocean Traxx, Solid Soul TRAX, and Rock Solid Productions, not to mention playing frequently alongside the dj's he rates highly: Mr. Pink, Mark Knight, Nic Fanciulli, Erick Morillo, Richard F, Seamus Haji, Micky Slim, Steve Lawler, Sasha, Nic Fanciulli, Armand van Helden, Soul Avengerz, DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter, Sandy Rivera, Roger Sanchez, DJ Pippi, Dimitri From Paris, Will Bailey amongst so many others!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rewind a bit. The story starts in 1990 when Pete leaves University in Kent and not fancying jumping straight into a life working as an arhitectual technician, decides to start a club night that would turn his life on its head 'Happiness' after spending the previous year raving in fields in the Home Counties listening to early Acid House!
As that solid reputation built through his residency, Pete was soon to become a well-known face on the UK club network, chalking off a vast array of the country's finer nights in almost every major town or city in Britain.
A quick cross section of the clubs he's played here in the UK takes in The Tunnel (Glasgow), Golden (Stoke), Discotecca, Passion (Coalville), Progress (Derby), Sugar Shack (Middlesborough), Evissa (Newcastle) Lakota (Bristol), Hidden, Blend (Derby), Moneypenny's (Birmingham), Milk, Thompson?s Garage, (Belfast), The Met (Armagh), The Network Club (Belfast), 2 Risque (Manchester), Society, The Aquarium, The 051Club (Liverpool), Route (Colchester), Club Class, (Maidstone) The Loft (Maidstone, Kent) Tabu (Great Yarmouth), The Summit (Wisbech) The Zap (Brighton) not to mention a whole host of London?s best nights - Ministry of Sound, London Calling, Milk n 2 Sugars, City Loud, The Cross, Clockwork Orange, Hanover Grand, The End, Serious/Dusted at both The Cross and Pacha-London and The Gallery all witnessing his trademark slick pumpin tuff funky house mix at one time or another.
With the UK all but covered, Pete turned his attentions overseas. His sense of wanderlust first saw him making forays to Ireland, then Mainland Europe, then North America, The Far East and now Australia. Indeed just as he can boast playing the finest clubs in the UK, he can also lay claim to having spun at some of the best clubs the world has to offer too: from The POD and Red Box (Dublin) to Backroom, 12SI, Liquid, Disco and Movement (Kuala Lumpur), Manumission, Pacha, El Divino, Es Paradise, Priviledge, Summon & Eden (Ibiza) to (Vancouver), Carpas Del Cel (Barcelona) to Orange (Penang), Pravda and D! Club (Switzerland) to Axis, Generator & Tremors (Malta), Liqwid, Zo's & BJ's (Bahrain) Zinc (Dubai) Nautilus Club (Latvia) to Castle Club, Mythology (Ayia Napa) to Retro Club & Embassy (Jakarta), Centro 360 (Singapore), Ministry Of Sound (Bangkok), Babylon (Russia) Jet Set Club (St Petersburgh) to Gecko (Koh Samui) - the list goes on and on and on... A feat few of his Kentish countrymen can come anywhere close to matching.
Pete is no stranger to the recording studio either. In 7 years, he clocked up just under a hundred remix and production credits working for a vast array of blue chip labels: Data/M.O.S Records, Positiva, Edel, AM:PM, Defected, Fluential, Virgin Records, Cleveland City, Excess Music (France) Hed Kandi, Multiply, East West, NEO, V:C and Xtravaganza are just a few that come to mind, And most recently having completed remixes for his own Solid Soul Productions label as well as Milo Records, Serious Records and Champion Records.
Just recently Pete has also had major success with signing his collaboration project SOULIZM/Solid Soul Productions. Pete's KENTISH MAN 'Easy Lover' track also signed to Hed Kandi and countless other third party labels. He is also one half of SCAPE who initially was signed to BIG LOVE who then signed them on to Ministry of Sounds DATA label, catapulting them into the lower end of the top 40 charts!! He is also one third of CAROUSEL who again are on the up with their funky brand of feel good US/Vocal House having just signed their 'Wanted' track to Soulfuric Records as well as starting his own new solo pseudonym 'THE GIFT OF LIFE with a track forthcoming on Solid Soul Productions called 'Just Cant Give It Up' with a lot of majors sniffing around it.
Defected Records are the latest label to take one of Pete?s slick productions, in the guise of THE ROCK SOLID ALLSTARS -'What God Has Chosen's' been played by everyone from Lawler, Sasha, Tong, Roger Sanchez, Sandi Rivera and Defected's own Simon Dunmore.
Pete's past has seen him take a position at CLUB ON magazine where he added yet another string to his bow by becoming a Director for their DJ Agency, looking after the residents of clublands well established nights. Soon his work at Club On would attract others who would tempt him elsewhere and before long he was heading to Pinnacle Records where he became their National Accounts Label Manager.
He had a busy time while at Pinnacle. He was responsible for promoting the companies output of DJ's, producers and dance compilation albums, however, as fun a time as he was having at Pinnacle, it wasn't long before he was in demand somewhere else once more.
In July 2002 Pete made a new home in his office at
Solid Soul Productions, - running his label, from all the day to day duties and organizing his busy world schedule of playing music across the globe and finding time to produce, remix and even manage some of his artistes that are signed to his label.
He's a firm believer in the concept of the Global Dancefloor, so come any Friday or Saturday night, you?re just as likely to find him popping up in Toronto or Taipei, as you are Leeds or Liverpool. All in all, not a bad result for someone for started DJing at 17 in their bedroom just outside Maidstone, Kent.
Much of Pete's success boils down to his 'down to earth' approach to work. There isn't a bad word to say about this DJ. His music style is versatile in every sense of the word, adapting to musical changes and audiences accordingly!!!
'If music be the food of life' im starving, bring on the main course!"
A new phase in Pete's career has begun to unfold, and demand for him internationally is high. The future of this underground DJ is set in stone and the forthcoming year will be his best yet.
